This arrangement of Zambra by the Spanish group Ojos de Brujo was commissioned by the Florida State University Percussion Ensemble and premiered at their 2023 PAS International Percussion Ensemble Competition Winner’s Showcase Concert.
Scored for 14 players, this rendition is intended as a showcase for every member of the ensemble with multiple opportunities for solos, challenging rhythmic interplay, and virtuosic technical passages. At its heart however, also lies the versatile vocal style of lead vocalist Marina Abad and the group’s blend of hip-hop, flamenco, and other global rhythms. This arrangement attempts to capture as much of that unique sound as possible, and performers are encouraged to be creative in finding ways to bring that to life.
