Paying it Forward
As you peruse this site, you will see pieces written by a wide variety of composers, not just my own. I have been connected to all of these either by directly commissioning the composer, or through the Furman University Percussion Ensemble’s own collaborations. (You can even search specifically for these pieces by choosing “Type” and then “Commission” in the site’s filter or simply by clicking here.) You will notice that clicking on some of the commissioned pieces will link out to the composers’ own sites for purchase, while others can be bought directly here.
“Why advertise other people’s pieces?” you might ask….well, that’s a great question that I probably don’t have the most business-savvy answer to, but I do know this:
It is important to put new art out into the world whenever we can, but it is also just as critical to help sustain the life of a new work beyond its initial premiere. It is this mindset - of new music as a living thing requiring nourishment - that has been a core artistic value of mine and the Furman University Percussion Ensemble. The ensemble's commissioning and collaborative efforts alone have produced dozens of new pieces, and it constantly works to promote them not only through premiere performances, but also through recordings (like its YouTube channel) where audiences can learn about the pieces and also support the composers.
By purchasing any commissioned pieces directly from this site - like Frances’ Pollock’s Love Story & Val Jeanty’s ElecNago (with more to come) - you will also be participating in our efforts to support new music, as all profits from these sales go directly towards the Furman University Percussion Ensemble’s commissioning fund.
So, have look around, visit my friends’ sites and buy their stuff, but also shop around here knowing that your support is paying it forward in the creation of new works… which, in turn, will also be available for purchase here in the future…which will also then continue fund the creation of even more works!
